Here is a list of links to websites that I visit occasionally. It is a work in progress. If you’d like me to put a link on here let me know and I’ll either happily comply or ignore you completely.
Simply click on the name to access each site.
The best new coffee shop in the Fox Cities. You can find it in downtown Appleton on College Ave. The website is not operational yet, but should be in a matter of a week or two. I am the webmaster...Seth and Bill (the owners) are letting me experiment with what I'm learning about HTML and CSS and a dash of Javascript. Hopefully it will look better than what I've done on here with Frontpage garbage.
Martin Luther College (MLC) The website of my beloved college. Check out the MLC Mallcam and the school seismograph!
The website of the ELS liberal arts/ministry college in Mankato, MN. Impressive website for a relatively small school. I've had the pleasure to talk to a couple of classes there...beautiful campus and friendly students.
The Bethany version of The Cabbage...or perhaps The Cabbage is the MLC version of The Splunge? It is a monthly subterranean publication and, from what I've gathered, it's anonymously written and published. Ah, the memories!
Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) The website of my beloved church body. Look closely and you’ll find an article written by yours truly!
Boo Brodie is a weekly variety type show here at MLC on Friday nights. They pack over 15 minutes of entertainment into an hour! Look closely and you’ll find references to The Cabbage and pictures of yours truly from when I was a guest and did a bit of stand-up.
The webmaster for The Cabbage Online maintains this site as a sort of HTML test-firing range. Go to the links page and find a link to The Cabbage Online. That would be counterproductive, but if you’re reading this right now, you have nothing better to do. Dan can’t spell, but he can do some fancy stuff on these computer thingies.
Quality web hosting at reasonable prices. I have experienced nothing but help and cooperation in my dealings with this small company. Design a website, sign on with Modevia for web-hosting, tell them I referred you to them, and maybe they’ll give me money.
I’ll leave out any comments about MLC’s official student publication and its website, but check out the online survey that you have to print off and send in the mail! Technology is wonderful, isn’t it?
The World Wide’s Web ultimate source for all things movie.
MUSIC LINKS These are a handful of my favorite musicians. Obviously I don’t agree on much of their philosophy, religious views, and stuff like that, but their music is adventurous and unique.
One of the world’s most unique songwriters. Mostly acoustic guitar with a wonderful sense of melody. Best known for singing “Have a Cigar” on Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. One of my favorite experiences was sitting in a London bar drinking Guinness and listening to Roy curse at a cricket match on the telly. His son, Nick, is very good too.
This link will lead you to a decent page with some good Genesis links and some general information (e.g. albums). The site with the best updates on all things Genesis is The Path, a link of which is on the page. Genesis was the best band of all time from the late ‘60s to the late ‘70s. Then Steve Hackett left.
Whereas Genesis has two major eras—with Steve Hackett and without Steve Hackett—Marillion is Marillion with Fish or Marillion with Steve Hogarth. I used to not be a big fan of the Hogarth-era stuff, but I have found myself listening to that more than the Fish stuff. Amazing that Marillion is not heard on the radio.
Yes had some excellent albums early on before getting hit with the ‘80s suck bug. Trevor Rabin was largely to blame. The Ladder provided some promise, but now new albums are only good in that it means they’re touring again.
Not hit by the ‘80s suck bug nearly as much as Yes. Although since Thrak, they haven’t done much to write home about. I still think they’re missing Tony Levin and Bill Bruford, but I haven’t given the new album enough fair listens yet.
All Canadian music is not like Celine Dion. Great live band.
Up finally came out last year! One of the few successful musicians to incorporate “world music” into the mainstream. Hope to see him in concert for the first time this summer in Milwaukee.
One of the world’s most respected bass players. The Tony Levin Band is a unique blend of jazz and rock and is one of the best live bands around, especially since they unfortunately (for them) have to play small venues. Tony has played with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Paul Simon, John Lennon, among many, many others.
Based solely on timbre of voice, David is my favorite singer. Very mesmerizing music and sense of melody. His new website is supposed to be up sometime this month.
Only recently heavily got into Bjork. I used to be scared of her. Sure, some of her stuff borderlines on techno crap, but when it works, it really works. I even own a Sugarcubes album.
Can’t wait till she releases a new album. Best known for her song “Wuthering Heights,” but I definitely like her later stuff much more. Hounds of Love is one of my favorite albums.
